Associate clinical professor John Lee is the Head of Illawarra Ophthalmology and one of the most experienced cataract surgeons in Australia. His priority is excellence in vision with the highest levels of safety. He introduced cataract surgery under topical anaesthesia to the Illawarra and is one of the few surgeons to perform all his cataract surgeries by this method. This eliminates the potential side effects from anaesthetic injections prior to cataract surgery.
Professor Lee also provides a comprehensive ophthalmological service including macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, eyelid diseases and paediatric ophthalmology.
He operates at Wollongong Hospital, Shellharbour public Hospital, Wollongong Day Surgery, The Wollongong Private Hospital, and Shellharbour Private Hospital.
He regularly works and teaches in developing countries in both Asia and Africa. He is a competitive surfski paddler and together with his wife is an active member of St. Michaels Anglican Church.
